I had wanted to see this documentary since I heard it advertised on a public radio program that I often listen to. I was so happy to see it on Netflix. This doc comes to you by the maker of Cowspiracy. You have to watch that. If you watch health documentaries like I do, then you have probably heard about Forks Over Knives. They featured interviews from those doctors as well. What the Health was kind of like a marriage between the two documentaries.
The doc gets right down to business with several interviews of many types of doctors and nutritionists talking about the amount of damage processed meats and meat products, in general, can do to your body. It was rapid fire, to be honest. I had to stop it a few times to mow over what they were saying.
We know the basic issues mostly with red meat, and pork, but this documentary really talks about chicken and fish. Two types of meat I hear my friends who are on the fence of giving up meat may stick to in order to “eat clean.” They destroy that myth with several facts to the contrary. They also come for the vegetarians who are still eating animal based cheeses, eggs, and kinds of milk. The animal fat is the leading cause of many of the lifestyle diseases. Heart disease and diabetes to be more precise.

I am already a vegan. My veganism journey has not been easy, and it’s not simple. My biggest challenge is meal prepping and finding meals when I am busy. It has helped me slow down and think about what I want to eat, and who is preparing my food. It’s not easy all the time since meat is so pervasive in the American diet, but I am sure that after this I will make a deeper effort to eat vegan and eat clean. Watching this documentary was like getting a pep talk to continue on the path. Not only do they interview real people who saw real changes in their lives after a change in diet, they went deep into the reasons why meat and animal products are used despite their effects on the environment and your health and how large health organizations are complicit in this agenda.
My only drawback from watching this documentary was the interviews. I wondered at times if the narrator and creator simply called the organization with the questions, without going into who he might need to speak with before he asked those questions. I mean it was clear where they stood with the food recommendations and attitudes who the people who did agree to be interviewed on camera, but sometimes I just wondered that fact.

I urge you, check out the “What The Health” documentary if you get some time. If you are wondering how to get healthier, or even thinking about giving up meat, I think this is a great resource and encouragement on your path to free yourself from these addictive foods.
